Finding the Self in Self-Care: Preparing you for 2021

Session Summary:
This talk will explore ways to reconnect with oneself through strategies that not only support emotional well-being, but also create opportunities to become more available to others.

Speaker: Dana B. Labat, M.A., Ph.D.


Dr. Labat earned her bachelor of art’s degree from Fisk University with induction into Phi Beta Kappa National Honor Society. She then completed her master of art's degree from Pennsylvania State University in the area of Media Studies, and her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center's Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

Dr. Labat’s training includes a postdoctoral fellowship in Pediatric Psychology, which propelled her into the position as Lead Psychologist and Psychological Services Manager at Children's Medical Center Dallas' (CMCD) Inpatient Psychiatric Unit and its Center for Pediatric Eating Disorders. While in this leadership role, she liaised with numerous hospital departments including neurology, gastroenterology, oncology, consult liaison and more. She also served on the leadership team attaining the first nationally-recognized Certification for Pediatric Eating Disorders by Joint Commission.

Dr. Labat transitioned her expertise from the hospital setting to the community setting and opened a private practice in Dallas concentrated on providing therapies, both individual and group, with adolescents and adults focusing on eating disorder treatment (anorexia, bulimia, and binge-eating), depression, anxiety, couple’s therapy and relationship repair. She also obtained specific training in Perinatal Mental Health from Postpartum Support International to support women and/or couples experiencing infertility, pregnancy loss, and/or perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.

As a Louisiana- and Texas-licensed clinical psychologist, she currently maintains an active private practice in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she works with clients across Louisiana and Texas in person and virtually through tele-mental health therapies.

Her areas of specialty include supporting adolescents and adults with everyday life stressors; women’s emotional health across the lifespan including reproductive health and pregnancy loss; and supporting the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities therapeutically. Lastly, Dr. Labat conducts psychological and psychoeducational assessment for the determination of learning differences, attention-related difficulties, and to clarify diagnoses.

Dr. Labat is also a sought-after speaker in the areas of Anti-racism initiatives, Mindfulness in BIPOC Communities, coping with racial trauma and living a healthy lifestyle. She also serves as a national consultant and content developer for a digital weight-loss program serving over 50,000 individuals across the United States.

 Cancellation Policy

As soon as you complete the registration process, you will be guaranteed a seat at this event.  The completed registration process initiates an invoice from your ATD Baton Rouge Chapter to you that may be paid online, by mail, or on the day of the event.

Event Cancellations received at least 48 hours prior to an event may be eligible to receive a full refund.  Cancellations will be accepted via e-mail and should be sent to the Treasurer at  treasurer@atdbatonrouge.org  All refund requests must made by the member or credit card holder.  Refunds will be credited back to the original method of payment within 30 days from the date the payment was received.  Requests for cancellations received after the stated deadline will not be eligible for a refund.

ATD Baton Rouge Chapter

Your ATD Baton Rouge Chapter may have to pay for your meal and other fees if you register and then cannot attend.  Please help us protect your chapter’s finances.  You can submit cancellations at least 48 hours before the event; otherwise, we will have to invoice you to cover these costs.  If that should happen, we will be happy to accept your registration for future events as soon as you have settled your outstanding balance.

What happens if I register and then cannot attend an event?

If you cancel at least 48 hours prior to the event, you will not be charged.  If you’ve already made payment, we will be happy to issue you a refund.  If you cannot cancel before 48 hours, please feel free to send someone else in your place.  Kindly send an email to treasurer@atdbatonrouge.orgso we can have materials prepared for that individual.  Our goal is to make sure that person feels as welcomed as possible.  :)
